Information about cookies
Under Spanish Law 34/2002 of 11 July on Information Society Services and Electronic Commerce (LSSI), in conjunction with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR) and Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 of 5 December on Personal Data Protection and the Guarantee of Digital Rights (LOPDGDD), websites using non-essential cookies must obtain the user’s express consent before their use.
What are cookies?
Cookies and similar technologies, such as local shared objects, Flash cookies and pixels, are tools used by web servers to store and retrieve information about their
visitors and ensure that the site functions correctly. These tools allow the web server to remember user information, such as page display preferences, usernames and passwords, and products of interest.
Cookies subject to consent requirements and exempt cookies
Under the EU directive, analytics, advertising and affiliate cookies require informed user consent. Technical cookies and those necessary for the website to function or to provide services expressly requested by the user are exempt.
Types of cookies
BY PURPOSE
- Technical and functional cookies: allow users to browse a website, platform or application and use its available options or services.
- Analytics cookies: allow their controller to monitor and analyse users’ behaviour on the websites to which they relate. The information collected measures website, application or platform activity and creates browsing profiles, enabling improvements based on analysis of how users use the service.
- Advertising cookies: enable the most efficient management of advertising spaces included by the publisher on a website, application or platform providing the requested service, using criteria such as the content displayed or the frequency of advertisements.
- Behavioural advertising cookies: collect information about users’ personal preferences and choices (retargeting), allowing efficient management of advertising spaces included by the publisher on the website, application or platform providing the requested service.
- Social cookies: are set by social networking platforms within the services so users can share content with friends and networks. Social media platforms can track online activity outside those services, which may affect the content and messages users see on other services they visit.
- Affiliate cookies: track visits from other websites with which the website has an affiliate agreement.
- Security cookies: store encrypted information to protect the data they hold against malicious third-party attacks.
BY OWNERSHIP
- First-party cookies: are sent to the user’s device from equipment or a domain managed by the publisher itself, through which the requested service is provided.
- Third-party cookies: are sent to the user’s device from equipment or a domain managed by another entity, rather than the publisher, which processes the data obtained through those cookies.
BY STORAGE PERIOD
- Session cookies: are designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a website.
- Persistent cookies: retain data on the device, which can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the cookie’s controller, ranging from a few minutes to several years.
